You may have heard of the annual wellness visit you have access to once you're enrolled in Medicare. This is a preventative service and totally covered under Medicare guidelines - you (potentially) don't have to pay anything! GREAT!
While to a normal person, this would sound almost synonymous with an annual physical, however, it could not be further from the truth according to Medicare. Annual physicals are NOT COVERED by Medicare by law. If you're at what you think is an annual wellness visit and the doctor gives you an EXAM, BLOODWORD, or other TESTS - I'm afraid you're getting a physical, NOT a wellness visit.
Here's the key difference: the annual wellness visit is about PLANNING. They may get height/weight and blood pressure but nothing more! The visit will help you map out decisions and timelines for your health going forward. It's a great thing to utilize if done properly! So, we want you to be able to use this without fear. How do you do this?
1. Make sure you indicate when you set up the appointment (and during confirmation and at the beginning of the appointment) that this is an ANNUAL WELLNESS VISIT covered by Medicare. Those words are your "magic words" so make sure you use them!
2. If you're confused about what services are covered and what you'll pay out of pocket, there are two resources you can use. The first is the billing department of your provider and the second is your agent! We take all questions and can provide answers or support even if the billing staff is not providing the answers you need.
